Notion Sixteen: Alysha Brilla Album Review

Today’s post is going to be slightly out of the ordinary as I have had the privilege of getting a sneak peak at Alysha Brilla’s debut album, “In My Head.”

The album deeply reflects her Tanzanian-Canadian roots, and is as original as she is! It embodies a mix of rhythm and blues, reggae as well as a few whimsical acoustic ballads.

She wrote, performed and produced the record, which will be released on July 11, 2013.

Much of her independent spirit shows through her lyrics and melodies as she pours out her joy and sorrow through songs that seem almost transparent.

One of my personal favourites is “L.A. Hotel Room,” a melancholy mix of guitar and airy vocals, about a girl coming face to face with loneliness, love and the prospect of losing it.

“Sorry” is another song I quite like. I found it to be an upbeat, fun, empowering song of a girl who is confident and strong in her new beginnings.

The album is very much a journey that takes you from a smoky bar in the 1940’s all the way to the streets of bustling, present day Los Angeles.

In my opinion this is a must buy…for those sunny road trips to the beach with your windows down and for those moody, rainy nights while you are stuck inside watching the clouds roll in.
