I decided to experiment with a new style of illustration that I dreamed up this week. This gown is an original design done by yours truly.
I completed this sketch in the morning for the studio I am collaborating with, BlushPretty. They are located in downtown Toronto and are one of the biggest hair and makeup artistry studios in the GTA. It is such an honor to be working with such a talented team. I have been named their in-house illustrator! Keep an eye out for my work on their blog and anywhere else!
I also have started sketching some spot illustrations. I found a love for drawing shoes! I am planning on making prints of some of my illustrations shortly, to be sold on Etsy or directly from myself, as well as at the studio.
In case you are curious, here is the original photograph that I sketched from for these beauties.
I have been extremely busy lately, but will post soon!
A little over a week ago I attended (as a bridesmaid) my good friend Jessy’s bridal shower. I am pictured with another dear friend of mine whose blog you can read here.
The photos turned out amazing. I wore a Modcloth find that could pass as vintage if I didn’t mention it was brand new. The dress is covered in painted little birds and is a beautiful aqua colour. I love how it hits just below the knee as far too many dresses (even 50’s inspired ones) are too short for my liking. The material is a cotton and feels hand-made. Definitely a keeper!
My shoes are Breckelle’s and I purchased them off of Beyond the Rack. I am crazy for T-straps at the moment.
The courier in my area knows me by name now as I clearly am a serial online shopper. I am cutting back most recently though due to my husband and I purchasing a new house. We really want to channel our money to things such as furniture and necessities for the next little while. I ultimately LOVE decorating so I am really looking forward to making the new place our own.
I am posting a little later than normal but I was away all weekend at a cottage for a Bachelorette weekend! Keep an eye out as I may be posting some photos soon! We had an awesome time.
I am crazy over men’s style button ups and have been for a good six years or so. They are comfortable and so versatile! This one in particular is high-low and I accented it with a gorgeous gold filigree statement necklace purchased on Ebay. I have received so many compliments on it and it can be used to accessorize both casual and dressy outfits.
I also am wearing my trusty combat boots by Steve Madden. You can never go wrong with them!
My purse is the Cross-body Jet Set by Michael Kors in Sapphire. Yes, even the name lures you in! I bought it in the United States as they only seemed to have the black colour of this style in Canada and I wanted something more fun for spring and summer. Not to mention I am just a huge sucker for royal blue hues.
In case you were wondering, my nails are painted in the Essie shade, “Ballet Slippers.” It is a little more pink in real life than what the picture is portraying. Being quite a popular colour I am sure you have all heard of it or seen it on a friend!
I have always adored the thought of dressing like a 1950’s housewife. Thanks to the internet and many boutiques that sell vintage and vintage-inspired items, looking like one is just a click away. Many of the style icons I look up to are from the 50’s and 60’s, needless to say Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are at the top of that list.
This particular dress I purchased online here.
My purse is a simple light grey should bag that I got for next to nothing at a local thrift store. I wish I could help out a bit with the origin of my shoes but truth be told I bought them at a store a few years ago that has since gone out of business and I do not recall the name of it (private run). They are a real patent leather and they only cost me $20 at a clear-out summer sale.
Another great brand, which was actually started by a mother and daughter who sew from original vintage patterns is this one. Although I have never personally ordered online with them, I have purchased one of their fabulous dresses which I wore to my engagement party some years ago (see below for a picture).
Today I decided I needed to showcase my turban and all of its beauty. My hair, which weighs about 2lbs did decide to wrestle with it but I do like how everything turned out. I bought this amazing vintage-inspired headpiece on Etsy. You can purchase it here. It shipped to me all the way from Israel and the quality is very good. You also cannot beat the price! I bought one in a nude colour as well. They are perfect for bad hair days…you really have no need to even brush your tresses, just hide them. All the while, you end up looking really posh.
My heels are by Kate & Mel, purchased a couple of winters ago at Town Shoes. The jacket I am wearing I bought at H & M and it is so classic and elegant, it is something I can always keep in my closet if I want to amp up the sophistication of an outfit. I also LOVE my pants, purchased also at H&M this winter for a mere $30.
My little clutch was a vintage find, all beads, absolutely amazing. It originally came with a chain, but that kept falling off and I eventually misplaced it. Either way, I am loving the detailing, it always adds the right amount of understated glam (oxymoron?) to an outfit.
So friends, what do you think?
I have never been one to post daily outfit posts, but the other day I was chatting with my lovely blog-savvy cousin-in-law and she suggested I start recording even one or two per week. I suppose today being one of the first good weather days all year, it was time to start.
In this outfit (wore it to church this morning) I am wearing a classic black circle skirt (French Connection) which I found at a thrift shop for a whopping $7.99. I do love when I accidentally stumble upon a deal! I was going to purchase one just like it from Etsy, but all along my local second hand store had just the thing. I do have a confession to make, I took a little bit of an afternoon nap in this classic outfit before shooting, but I quite like the (slightly) rumpled look.
My purse is a classic Hamilton, from Michael Kors in the luggage color. I tend to wear it a lot as it seems to go with everything and it just gets better with age. I generally love when things look worn as opposed to brand spanking new.
My flats are nude/blush colored t-straps, ordered online from Beyond the Rack. I paired it all with a massive (messy) sock bun and a tucked in button-up shirt.
There you have it. I now need to pay my photographer (husband) with hamburgers, so this will be short and sweet.
