Notion Sixty-Three: Falling for Fall

The season has officially changed and I consciously noticed it today while driving along a tree lined road en route to my parents house. The tree tops were blushing the slightest shade of orange, some of them being a wee bit more bashful than  others.

I love fall and all that it brings. The only downside for me is knowing that it is far too short in Canada. Soon the polar vortex will coast its way in and make most of us have a sudden urge to flee or hibernate.

That being said we do have those few blissful weeks to wear sweaters and chic jackets, without feeling like maybe if we do not walk fast enough to the nearest place of refuge we may risk frostbite.

Here are a few of my personal favourites for fall this season.

I know there has been a fair bit of it in previous years but lately I have taken a major fancy to all types of (faux) fur. Although a fur jacket is a bit much for early autumn I would opt for a fur vest. It is so versatile and makes you feel like some sort of tribeswoman from empires long past. (Okay that is just me). Either way, it spices up any outfit and makes you stand out from a crowd without trying too hard. I really have my eye on one from H&M, although I am on a strict budget at the moment and as reasonably priced as it is, I have to wait a little!

I am CRAZY for desert boot inspired wedges! I fondly remember owning the classic (non wedge) style in bright purple when I was about 5 years old. The one pictured is made by TOMS but I saw an absolutely gorgeous pair yesterday for a fraction of the price at WINNERS. They would go quite well with a pair of skinny jeans or cuffed boyfriend pants. Let’s not forget to mention, I felt like I could walk miles in them, they are so comfortable!

So I had to include that versatile autumn staple, the knit beanie. I purchased a couple from Urban Outfitters some years back and they have since gone missing with all of my moving around. I finally purchased another this year and I love it to bits. It is a way that I can express my inner artiste even when I am simply pairing it with a leather jacket.

Now we can never forget one of the BEST parts of the fall wardrobe; chunky knit sweaters! Throw one on and it is instant cozy. Enough said.

STARBUCKS COFFEE COMPANY - More than 200 Million Sold: Fans Cele

Last but not least the “Pumpkin Spice Latte” from Starbucks is something that I look forward to every September. The second the temperature drops a few degrees my body subconsciously yearns for it. Even if you are not a coffee drinker it is like pumpkin pie in a cup. I cannot say enough! This year I have been ordering decaf to get the taste, but not the caffeine buzz, especially when I order later at night.

These are just a few of the things I love about this time of year. I could go on and on, but if I did so…it just might be over when I’m done. It is time to hook my Homebody-Yorkshire-Terrier up to a leash and take a nice long walk with my camera.

A little over a week ago I attended (as a bridesmaid) my good friend Jessy’s bridal shower. I am pictured with another dear friend of mine whose blog you can read here.

The photos turned out amazing. I wore a Modcloth find that could pass as vintage if I didn’t mention it was brand new. The dress is covered in painted little birds and is a beautiful aqua colour. I love how it hits just below the knee as far too many dresses (even 50’s inspired ones) are too short for my liking. The material is a cotton and feels hand-made. Definitely a keeper!

My shoes are Breckelle’s and I purchased them off of Beyond the Rack. I am crazy for T-straps at the moment.

The courier in my area knows me by name now as I clearly am a serial online shopper. I am cutting back most recently though due to my husband and I purchasing a new house. We really want to channel our money to things such as furniture and necessities for the next little while. I ultimately LOVE decorating so I am really looking forward to making the new place our own.

I am posting a little later than normal but I was away all weekend at a cottage for a Bachelorette weekend! Keep an eye out as I may be posting some photos soon! We had an awesome time.

I am crazy over men’s style button ups and have been for a good six years or so. They are comfortable and so versatile! This one in particular is high-low and I accented it with a gorgeous gold filigree statement necklace purchased on Ebay. I have received so many compliments on it and it can be used to accessorize both casual and dressy outfits.

I also am wearing my trusty combat boots by Steve Madden. You can never go wrong with them!

My purse is the Cross-body Jet Set by Michael Kors in Sapphire. Yes, even the name lures you in! I bought it in the United States as they only seemed to have the black colour of this style in Canada and I wanted something more fun for spring and summer. Not to mention I am just a huge sucker for royal blue hues.

In case you were wondering, my nails are painted in the Essie shade, “Ballet Slippers.” It is a little more pink in real life than what the picture is portraying. Being quite a popular colour I am sure you have all heard of it or seen it on a friend!

Happy Sunday!

Today’s post is all about my Kimono. I found it while shopping across the border in the United States in my favourite colour! I was so thrilled. I love how flowing and eccentric it is.

Surprisingly it was a Forever21 purchase, so I always welcome the thought of looking fabulous while not breaking the bank.

I paired it with a royal blue crop top and royal blue loafers. I purchased these shoes from Beyond the Rack for a mere $14.99.

My necklace I ordered online here.

Last but not least I splurged a little on the Cedar Street Maise handbag. I purchased it from the Kate Spade website and being a Canadian I ended up spending over $100 on top of the listed price on their website once you factor in taxes, shipping and the dollar difference. I do love it! It is made of saffiano leather and holds its shape well.

I suppose I needed a white bag anyhow, this one I will be keeping for a very long time.

I have always adored the thought of dressing like a 1950’s housewife. Thanks to the internet and many boutiques that sell vintage and vintage-inspired items, looking like one is just a click away. Many of the style icons I look up to are from the 50’s and 60’s, needless to say Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are at the top of that list.

This particular dress I purchased online here.

My purse is a simple light grey should bag that I got for next to nothing at a local thrift store. I wish I could help out a bit with the origin of my shoes but truth be told I bought them at a store a few years ago that has since gone out of business and I do not recall the name of it (private run). They are a real patent leather and they only cost me $20 at a clear-out summer sale.

Another great brand, which was actually started by a mother and daughter who sew from original vintage patterns is this one. Although I have never personally ordered online with them, I have purchased one of their fabulous dresses which I wore to my engagement party some years ago (see below for a picture).
